TheMatt Johnson Music Scholarship

How to apply

A recording, two essays, and an honest love of music.

That's the heart of it — plus a cover page and a short music resume. Matt's family, friends, and former bandmates read and listen to every submission.

  • You are a graduating senior at Harris County High School in Hamilton, Georgia — or a former HCHS student.
  • You plan to pursue music education — or to continue your musical path in another serious way: performing, writing, producing, teaching, or studying music.
  • Any instrument counts, and so does your voice. You don't need to be planning a music degree to apply.
  1. 1. A cover page

Your name, level of education, your school (graduating seniors: include where you're headed next), email, phone, and home address.

  2. 2. A music resume

Your training (band, chorus, private lessons — with years), your instruments (voice counts), and your performances — plus work experience and community service, especially anything musical.

  3. 3. Two one-page essays

    • “Why I would like to receive the Matt Johnson Music Foundation Scholarship.”
    • “The impact my music training has had on my decision about my future career.”
  4. 4. A short video (1–2 minutes)

You, singing or playing — a phone recording is completely fine. We care about the playing, not the production.

Everything on this page in two printable pages — keep it, or pass it along to your school counselor.
